What will I learn?
Starting with basic sewing machine use, students will learn new techniques with each sewing project while continuing to practice techniques already learned.
Students will learn about fabric choices, threading & using a sewing machine, pinning, cutting, hemming, casings, ironing, using a pattern, following instructions and "sew" much more. Plus, as students get more advanced, they will continue their learning to include buttons, button holes, zippers, sleeves, etc. and eventually can learn to use a commercial pattern.

Class Policies and Procedures
Food and Drink
Please do not send any snacks or sugary drinks (sports drink, juice, soda ) to class. Snacks/sugary are a distraction and messy. Food spills may ruin your student or someone else project and not allowed near sewing machines.
Water in a closed top water bottle is fine.
*Those with medical conditions as were listed on the registration form, are the only exception to rule.
Classroom Safety
Shoes must be worn in class at all times. If your student has slip on shoes that fall off easily. Please do not send them wearing those. Even with daily pin check and vacuuming, pins still have a way of hiding in the carpet.
Irons are used in class and all students are taught the proper use of them. Students are monitored while using the iron; however, Even the most careful student can burn themselves. First aid burn gel and spray is out for students to use and located at the iron table.
Band-aids are also out in case they are needed.
Class rules are in each of the student binders and a safety chart is posted. Reminders are given as needed.
Measurements/trying on projects
Body Measurements in order to determine pattern sizes, cut elastic to fit, and fittings, body measurements will be taken in the sewing studio over the student's clothing with minimal physical contact. Students will have complete privacy when trying on sewing projects in a restroom.
Tuition
Tuition for classes is $99.00 per month due on the first class of the month. If tuition is paid after the 10th a $10 late fee will be charged. Regardless of the number of classes in the month, the tuition is $99.00 per month. Tuition is not prorated for missed classes and there are no tuition refunds. These policies apply if a student is sick, or out of town, or forgot, or has homework to do, or any other reason. If a student must miss a class, please notify me by text or email.
*I do not offer makeup classes. Your student will not fall behind if they miss one or two classes, as each student works at their own pace and each choses what project they are working on after the first project of the year is completed. Sewing is not a race or a competition. I want each student to do their best and learn from their mistakes. Please make every effort to have them each class and on time.
Class Cancellations:
If I must cancel due to weather or illness a make-up class will be scheduled.
Class Supplies
The parent(s) will be responsible for providing the supplies needed such as fabric, thread, notions, etc. Please allow your child to pick fabric, projects are more fun if it is something they love.
Their patterns and instruction book will be left in their basket in the classroom so items are not lost or forgotten each week.
Is my child ready?
HOw do I know my child is ready to sew? Great Question! Well let’s see, are they:
- Interested in learning the class material and not just 'going through the motions'
- Able to follow multi-step directions without constant supervision
- Are respectful of other students and the instructor
- Can be patient/non-disruptive while others are receiving instruction.
- Understand that sewing projects are a process of steps that will take time and patience to complete (ie: positive attitude, doesn't rush, produces good work)
